Big News!!!
On June 24th, 2024 my wife and I welcomed our beautiful twin girls, Blake and Ainsley, into this world.
Mom and babies are all healthy and doing well – and big brothers Luke and Logan are loving them!
This major life event brought two things sharply into focus for me:
A Breath of Fresh Air
It made me realize just how much my family is a breath of fresh air in today’s current climate. I haven’t had as much time as I usually do to keep up with the news and current events. I have instead been busy with changing diapers and trying to catch up on sleep when I can. Being more present with my family has been a great way to tune out all of the outside noise – which has almost no impact on my day to day life anyway.
With so many areas of negativity to fixate on in this world – I would encourage you instead to position your focus on the things in your life that give you a breath of fresh air. I think you will find you will greatly reduce your stress level and simultaneously increase your happiness.
Course Correction
Sometimes plans change and you need to course correct. I’m not sure too many people really plan on having twins when they set out to grow their family, but let me tell you that I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s been challenging at times, but extremely rewarding and a ton of fun. It did however, slightly change the trajectory of our financial plans as a family. Fortunately, I’m a financial advisor and crunching numbers and planning are kind of my thing. We all will have unexpected events happen in our lives – it’s inevitable. It could be having children, moving to a new city, getting a new job, losing a job, getting divorced, a loved one passing – things are always happening and changing in our lives – sometimes planned and sometimes unplanned.
My encouragement for you is when plans change, don’t panic, but embrace it. Gather yourself and go back to the drawing board. It might only take a few tweaks here or there to get yourself back on track. If you’re not sure, then seek the advice of a trusted financial partner – you can even schedule some time with us here at MtM to make sure all your ducks are in a row. We would welcome the opportunity to sit down and listen.

Changing Seasons
Fall is my favorite time of year. Besides all of the fun fall festivities (football and tailgates, apple picking, pumpkin picking, corn mazes, changing leaves and crisp air, etc.), my wedding anniversary and birthday are both in October. Additionally, my son Logan’s birthday is in November (turning three this year), and of course Thanksgiving is arguably my favorite meal of the entire year!
I also enjoy fall because it’s a great way to get back into a routine. Summer vacations are over, school has started, and we get back into the swing of things. One of those things I would encourage you to focus on are routines to create confidence in your overall financial health. I included a list of topics below – some that are fairly quick and easy to start back up, and some that might take a little more time and planning to revisit.
Simple & Manageable
- Creating or revisiting your family budget
- Checking how much your emergency fund is (target 3-6 months of your living expenses)
- Checking how much you contribute to your 401k plan (target 10-15%)
Complex & Intricate
- Are you on track for retirement?
- Is your portfolio properly diversified given the recent market volatility?
- Are you confident in your estate and legacy plan?
- Are you confident in navigating the Social Security and Medicare landscape as you approach retirement?
- Are you being tax efficient with your investments?
- Do you have enough life insurance coverage, God forbid?
My hope is that one or two of these resonate with you, and ultimately help you get your financial goals back into a routine, or help with creating a new routine.
